Alex Chua : Clarity Coach The Meaning of My Email Signature

The Meaning of My Email Signature

Posted on Jul 20th, 2006 by Alex Chua : Clarity Coach Alex Chua

I usually sign off my emails with the word "Namaste". For those who don't know this magic word yet... here's the meaning...

Namaste... I first learnt of the word through my mentor... the meaning & intention carried by this word attracted me... it resonated with some deeper & higher part of me.

Only the surface meaning sunk in at first, but as I grew... personal experiences validated the power of this simple word & I begin to grasp the deeper truth...

"Namaste" is a Sanskrit word that acknowledges the inestimable value of each individual. It is used to greet and honor others.

"Namaste" means "As I acknowledge and honor the Spirit within myself, so do I acknowledge and honor the Spirit within you."

The extended meaning of the word has been written as:

"I honor the place in you in which the entire universe dwells.
I honor the place in you which is love,
of truth,
of light, and
of peace.
When you are in that place in you, and
I am in that place in me,
we are one."

Namaste!

Thanks for the refresher! It's funny, I learned the word and meaning in yoga, but like you, my personal meaning of it has grown in time. And when my husband asked me what it meant, I couldn't give him a direct definition because I had forgotten. And so, it was no accident that I stumbled across it at exactly the perfect time:)

I first felt the word several months ago.  Within days I found the word and it's meaning before me, just there.  I smiled and got misty eyed.

an afterthought - it was just a couple of weeks ago a yoga video taught me what I presume to be the correct pronunciation which is with a long “a” at the end, namaste-A, yes/no?

Thank you, Alex. I use Namaste' in every yoga class. But I'd forgotten the full meaning. I will now use it as I explain to anyone new to the greeting!
